Norman "Norm" Snively was a rent-a-clown and the original owner of Buddy.

Physical appearance[]

Norm is a middle-aged male.

Personality[]

Snively is an alcoholic. He knew nothing about Buddy, and only used him to boost his own fame. He got quickly frustrated with Buddy any time he did something wrong, and would hit him with a rolled-up newspaper.

History[]

While at one particular birthday party, Buddy accidentally hit Snively in the face with a ball, while attempting to get it inside of a hoop that Snively formed with his arms, causing trouble at the party, while Snively chased him around in anger. After the mother of the child threw Snively out, he put Buddy in a kennel, planning to take him to the pound for ruining his chance at success (although it was just as much his fault as it was Buddy's, due to his incompetence), but Buddy unknowingly fell out of Snively's truck due to the bumpy roads.

Snively managed to find Buddy after watching the news, while eating dinner and seeing a report, when Buddy began to gain notoriety for his basketball skills. Snively visited the Framm home and convinced Josh's mother Jackie that he was the dog's owner and wanted "Old Blue" back. Josh sneaked over to Snively's house and freed Buddy, which Snively noticed and gave chase in his clown truck, but the two managed to escape as Snively crashed into a lake. Snively returned at the Timberwolves championship game, which they won and although seeming to appreciate Buddy's skills, Snively sued the Framms for custody of Buddy. Coach Arthur Chaney showed up at the courthouse and convinced Judge Cranfield (who was a fan of Chaney from his days as a New York Knicks player) that because Buddy was legally an adult in dog years, he should choose who he wanted to be his rightful owner. Cranfield had Josh and Snively stood across from each other and call Buddy to their side. Snively called Buddy, eventually getting frustrated, pulling out a rolled-up newspaper and swatting it against his hand, a weapon that he would abuse Buddy with. Buddy walked over to him and teared up the newspaper before running back to Josh, the Framms winning the custody case. Snively was then arrested by the police. He doesn't appear in the subsequent sequels, which may suggest that he was sent to prison, or that he eventually moved to a new city to start a new life.
